As you all probably already know, I am planning to go to Anime Expo 2009 this year on July 2 to 5. I got my hotel booked from July 1 to 5 so I took 2 days of from work (July 2nd and 3rd) for AX09. Honestly, I am really excited as it is happening last than one month. Knowing that Anime Expo is the biggest anime convention in North America and I will be there for 4 days, I am utterly pumped. My trip to Anime Expo 2009 in LA this year is even more worth it that it already is with list of well-known Japanese Guest of Honours. Since most of them are usually announced nearing the convention time due to their schedule so there may be some additional Japanese guest of honours after this post is written.

Any Trigun/Gungrave’s fans should know who he is, if not, shame on you ^^;;. Actually shame on me too since I have not finished watching Trigun yet and I do realize that I fail really bad >.> . That’s right; he is the creator of Trigun, a hit anime series in North America and Gungrave (anime and game). I need to buy something so I will have something to have him signed on.

He is original creator of S-Cry-Ed (manga) and the screenwriter for S-Cry-Ed anime series. S-Cry-Ed may not be as well known as Trigun here in North America but what I do know is that I love that anime. I still remembered when I was a student watching this anime from start to finish nonstop at night till morning lol. It was a great series. In 2003, he won the “Best Individual/”Individual Achievement” award at the 8th Animation Kobe (similar to Oscar but for anime I think). He owns a company called Studio Orphee which consists of 7 people dedicated to producing anime stories/script and management. He was also majorly involved in Trigun (TV) as the script writer. For him, I already prepared something to be signed on, S-Cry-Ed DVD Box Set vol 1 (US version) which I also bought from

Is AX2009 like a Trigun reunion or something ? Not only one or two but three people who were heavily involved in the creation of Trigun. AX 2009 welcomes Satoshi Nishimura, the director of Trigun TV series.

Morning Musume

morningmusumeMorning Musume

Although I am not really a fan, it’s still an awesome thing to have them at Anime Expo since I rarely see a well-known  Japanese guest of honours at Canadian Anime Conventions. I guess one big different between US anime conventions and Canada conventions is the sponsor. Most, if not all, anime conventions in Canada is run by anime fans, while, in US, all major anime conventions have quite a few sponsors. More sponsors = more $$$ = better Japanese guest of honours.

Anyone happens to be a huge fan ? If yes, please let me know couple good songs from them ^^. Their 3,2,1 Breakin’ Out! single was announced as an official Anime Expo 2009 theme song and in addition, they are having an Original Promotional Video competition world wide using the song. Read more details here. Couple Morning Musume PVs and their recent concerts below. I ordered their latest release, Syou Ganai Yume Oibito , from and the cd includes 3,2,1 Breakin’ Out song ^^ which is perfect to get their signature on.

He is well-known for his work as the director in Gurren Lagann and considering how many Yokos I have seen during anime convention (Check out my AN2009 coverage if you haven’t alread), Gurren Lagann is a well-known anime through out North America. I am guessing the line up for his signature session will be quite long ^^;;. Is this series really that good ? I personally haven’t finished watching it yet. Can anyone convince me to watch it ? ^^ like Optic did with Spice Wolf.

He is the person that we should be thankful for Yoko’s big “eyes” ^^;;. Apparently, getting the director alone is not enough so Anime Expo decided to bring the character designer as well.

Toshiyuki Morikawa

Toshiyuki Morikawa

He is a veteran voice-actor for anime and games and for some reasons, his characters are usually the bad guys . For example, Tyki Miki in Dgray-man, Griffith in Berserk, Naraku in Inuyasha and many more. If you have been wanting to meet Sephiroth seiyuu in FF7 Advent Children, FF7 Crisis core, Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts2, AX 2009 is your (only) chance to meet him.

Toshiyuki Morikawa has a long list of anime and games where he was involved as a voice actor so I decided not to put it here but you can check it here.

Daisuke Ishiwatari

He is one of the original creators of Guilty Gear fighting game and is responsible for characters, storyline and music. In addition, he is also the voice actor of Sol Badguy and Order Sol. I am amazed that AX managed to bring him to AX09 since he is incredibly famous for his work in Guilty Gear. I ordered an original Guilty Gear Isuka PS2 game for him to sign on ^^. Do you usually buy some merchandise and have the author signed it or do you just bring a piece of paper or whatever you can find and get him/her to sign on it ?

If anyone happens to go to AX 2009 too, please let me know and maybe we can meet-up ^^.
